mouse, I know LBJ was a Democrat. Unlike you I'm not a servile party hack, so I lay the blame where it belongs.

HISTORY LESSON ON YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
YOU MIGHT WANNA READ THIS !!!!
Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.
Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes.
Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION message was removed.
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in brackets.
1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary [No longer voluntary],
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you're self-employed],
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible],
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent], and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed].
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month - and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' - you may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

AND MY FAVORITE:
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, though. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so - but it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?
Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

Why do you give credit to Biden for Trump's idea?

Would somebody tell me what "buying power " has to do with the c*ckwombles want to raise the retirement age and gut SS and repeal the inflation reduction act where more medicine prices are coming down ? Especially insulin ? I personally used to buy insulin from a Canadian pharmacy much cheaper than here in the states ? But the c*ckwombles don't want Medicare to negotiate for lower prices as Canada has done for years ? No wonder your cult looks so bad and a few decent members are not running for reelection or retiring ? Shucks . The Democrats may retake control of Congress before the next election. You c*ckwombles don't realize Americans are getting sick of your policies to take care of the top two or three percent Drug prices lower and you ladies will again get to make your OWN reproductive choices like it should have never been interrupted to begin with....

mouse, you're so intent in laying blame, you prefer to make up lies rather than seek out facts which could support your noxious cause. The first problem with S/S was that its creator FDR failed to see the loophole. LBJ was the first to see how the government could grab up the surplus and did so to help offset the cost of Viet Nam. Since then, succeeding administrations have used the surplus for purposes which it was never intended. If the various administrations had left the S/S fund alone it could have flourished in perpetuity and give realistic cost of living raises to boot.

What kind of super imagination declares that a fund that is owed more than $17 trillion is bankrupt, or for that matter how someone that owes billions of dollars is wealthy?

Poor Plantation Gandy. He doesn't realize his money has lost about half it's buying power since Pedo Joe took charge.

I know it and you know it. If all wage earners paid their "fair share " of SS taxes like what 95% of us do SS would be solvent long after we're all gone. I mean why shouldn't the wealthy pay the same rate as the rest of us ?

George W. Bush

President George W. Bush oversaw the largest overhaul of Medicare in the program's nearly 40-year history. Most significantly, the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA) of 2003 amended Title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to create Medicare Part D, the first prescription drug benefit in the program's history.

In 1972, Nixon signed a bill into law that provided a 20% across-the-board increase for monthly benefits. More important, the legislation he signed established the procedures for issuing automatic COLAs every year starting in 1975.

Jimmy Carter

By the late 1970s, Social Security was in dire financial straits and the program was on an unsustainable course. In an effort to shore up the program's long-term financial solvency, President Carter signed the Social Security Amendments of 1977. The amendments contained changes that Congress made to how benefits would be computed.

The changes generally lowered the amount that beneficiaries received. He also made it where the government could "borrow " from it and the democrats "borrowed " from it first. Uni

I do and the cost for that optional package breaks down to a mere $2.75 per month annually.

For someone that has been laid off and has been searching for a job and finally found one COLA can be a godsend, providing the have a Fairy Godmother. Take the length of time they were unemployed, add to that the waiting period for their first paycheck, then the waiting period before they're eligible for their new employer's group insurance. Yeah, if that Fairy Godmother can cover the Cola payments they'll be in good shape!

Raise the retirement age. Cut 1.5 trillion from Social Security. Rescind the Inflation Reduction Act so that Medicare can't negotiate for lower drug prices. What a caring crowd ? Send insulin prices back through the roof. 🤮
