We have a serious problem here in the high country with homelessness and its getting worse. In Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes on paper there are approx. 1,200 and in reality that number is more likely 2,500+ homeless. Sad thing there is only Hospitality House with 38 beds to cover those 7 Counties while in those same Counties there are at least 18 animal shelters. This is a terrible shame - I know I am homeless. I have started a Group for the homeless to share helpful info, make friends and organize to try to get more shelters in the mountains. You can see/join at:
